The Ministry of Culture has launched the new season of the Egyptian Academy of Arts in Rome, entitled " Egypt and Italy -Dialogues of Art and Creativity" , it began by celebrating the selection of Aswan as the capital of the African youth- comes within the framework of Egypt's presidency of the African Union. The inauguration was attended Dr. Heba Youssef , Head of the Foreign Cultural Relations Sector and the supervisor of the cultural and artistic activities of the Academy and a number of ambassadors of Arab, African and European countries in Italy. The celebration started with opening of an exhibition of plastic art entitled “ Messages From the South “ , including 32 works of 20 creators from different generations in the field of photography, graphics, photography, landscapes and abstract arts , reflecting the landmarks and environment in Aswan and Nubia, in addition to a collection of photographs embodying the traditional life in southern Egypt.
For his part ,Hisham Badr, the Egyptian Ambassador to Italy, delivered a speech stressing on the effective role of the Ministry of Culture through the Egyptian Academy of Arts in Rome as one of the arms of Egyptian cultural diplomacy and soft power , pointing to the influential role of arts in promoting communities, describing Egypt as the Africa gate, especially after the selected capital of the African Youth, adding that Aswan will host many international conferences and meetings during the coming period.
For her part, Dr. Heba Yusuf reviewed the agenda of cultural and artistic activities during the new season of the Academy in Rome and pointed to the artistic and civilization historical common features between Egypt and Italy , giving a prove that the Roman art is shown in the temples of Upper Egypt Edfu, Dandara and Fiyala . Moreover , the Islamic arts is shown in the city of Sicily , approving the convergence of the two civilizations ,this was the reason for choosing Aswan as an icon for this season . She also stressed that Dr. Inas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture, pays special attention to the Egyptian Academy of Arts in Rome as a bridge and a window for demonstrating the Egyptian creativity in various fields to create the dialogue of civilizations between the two countries.
The ceremonies included screening a documentary film highlighting the most important historical and tourist landmarks in Aswan and the modern urban development projects in the city. The celebration concluded with presenting a show for “ Aswan Folk Art Troupe “- affiliated to the General Organization of Culture Palaces, reflecting the customs and cultural heritage of Aswan. The show attracted hundreds of audiences .
